Richard's love of landscape, and of the abstract form, is the underlying current which runs within all his work.

Drawing inspiration from the countryside, his art offers an abstracted interpretation of natural elements and landscapes.

Richard Hawking's latest exhibition, An Imaginative Nature, exemplifies the interaction between the natural world & the imagination. It offers a series of elemental landscapes which, through abstraction, repetition & a sense of visual hightening, seek to individualise & focus one's engagement with nature. Richard's practice of layering & reworking the canvas aims to represent topographical features, which are largely defined by their relationship with colour.
